One broken ice maker that has stopped making ice. A new one costs 3 + s/h from GE, or about on eBay. I’m cheap and thought it might be a simple repair, so I decided to take it apart. Even if I couldn’t fix it, I still got to take something apart, and that’s always fun too.

In this picture, I’ve already thawed it out, dried it out with a hair dryer and checked most of the electrical connections. Looking under the circuit board, I noticed that there is a magnet on the shaft attached to the cut-off paddle that is not aligned with the Hall-effect sensor on the circuit board. A little vigorous shaking dislodged a broken plastic bit.
